Behavior Chart and Trio Blocks...

This is a combined post...

I want to document something we've been doing for Weston to encourage good behavior and making good choices. I also wanted to share a GREAT gift idea if you have a 3-5 year old to buy for this Christmas.

We've really struggled with how to help/teach Weston to make good choices and to "think" before he acts. We've done EVERYTHING we could think of and nothing seemed to be helping. Since the sticker chart system worked so well with potty training (he literally potty trained in 24 hours)...we decided to use it for behavior.

To motivate him, there was a TRIO block set (Batman edition) sitting on top of the frig. He knew as soon as the chart was full, he was going to get his toy. This worked so much better than, "if you fill it up, we'll go pick out a prize".

This happened by accident though. I actually bought this TRIO set for Christmas and he stumbled across it in the back of my car. I changed gears and told him he could earn it by filling up a sticker chart. He got a sticker everytime he was "caught being good". Sometimes, he got as many as 6-7 stickers a day.

Now for the toy recommendation...

If you have a 3-5 year old to buy for....you should consider these blocks. They are sort of like legos. They come with a book and kids can build all sorts of things with them. We decided on these for Weston rather than Legos because they were a little bigger and thought they would be safer when Griffin gets more active. However, they aren't as big as the "baby legos". They come in PINK/PURPLE for girls, too.

Weston amazes me with these blocks...he can build ANYTHING with them. Plus, he stays entertains with them longer than any other toy/game/activity he has.

A little harder....
